Bet you never thought of doing that with a carrot. (Stop snickering. I mean something you really never thought of doing with a carrot.)

Now I want to see a Bugs Bunny & the orchestra where the principle clarinetist keels over and Bugs leaps into action to save the day....

You know, Mr. Fixer specializes in making anything into an ad hoc musical instrument. A carrot is something he hasn't tried, although it looks much easier than the tofu one he once made! (Carrots would make good cornettos, too: firm enough to carve a decent mouthpiece.)

So I have high standards for people making instruments out of weird things like food. But as a clarinet player, I enjoyed listening to this piece even though the guy wasn't actually playing the perfectly plausible musical instrument he made.

I wondered about that. I'm not a musician, but it seemed unlikely that it would not require further tuning (i.e. widening or narrowing the holes) for the intervals to be right. And there were places where, regardless of whether he was actually playing the carrot, there was obviously unseen accompanyment.

He's operating a sample-looper with his foot, and recorded all those sounds while you watched him playing. He laid down one layer of the jam after another, on the spot. It's a common enough trick for solo musicians; I've seen bass players, guitarists and cellists do it while busking.
