I haven't even seen a door-to-door salesman in 20 years — JWs and Mormons aside, do door-to-door salesmen still exist?

I have, however, contemplated lingering, torturous deaths for spammers.

Just curious... have you lived in the Boston area the last 20 years? I think door-to-door salesman are more middle-america than that.

No; in the past 20 years or so I've lived in Minneapolis, Madison, Dayton, Milwaukee, Seattle, Ann Arbor, and a variety of places around Boston. The only strangers I can recall knocking on my door in that time are the aforementioned JWs and Mormons, a political candidate, and, now that I think about it, twice (once in Seattle and, I think, once in Dorchester), girl scouts selling cookies.
