I've always been fascinated by maps of the world, possibly ever since my dad drew (by hand and from memory) a huge A1 size map of the world dotted with illustrations representing various countries to go on my bedroom wall when I was very small. I remember Inca pyramids in Peru, an enormous grinning German dressed in lederhosen and clutching a beer tankard, and various animals and architecture - tigers in India, Pandas in China, kangaroos - you get the picture. (The US had Mount Rushmore and the Statue of Liberty I think.)
One of these days I'll try and draw a big illustrated poster of the world too - though possibly not from memory!
I'm still making it my quest to visit as many countries as I can (going to Slovakia in less than 3 weeks) but I do find it strange that the one country I have not visited is the US! (Not counting an hours stopover in Florida airport on the way to Mexico - so technically I have visited North America.)
