I just went to G+ for the first time in months, because I learned that not following G+ was how I'd missed some friends' baby's birth announcement.

Now I'm remembering why I haven't tried to read G+ in months.

I know damned well that there are people at Google who know how to do a sensible UI. But they seem to be keeping those folks far away from G+.

It's possible to stay abreast of a handful of important people on G+, but you have to game it a bit. You can also pull the posts of people in just one circle at a time, which is pretty effective too. None of which is intuitively obvious, of course.

G+ is one of those annoying things where I say "but consider the alternative."

I found the setting that lets me get rid of the annoying 3-column layout. Having a single stream helps a lot. And viewing a fairly small circle (as it were) of friends makes it ... actually, just fine. And what do you know, the first thing I see that way is from you. And the first thing I share is something I'd love to be a fly on the wall when you read it... :)
