So, this is the video that reminded me of how cool an adult Emma Watson has become. But when I started writing a post about it, I realized that I really wanted to make the serious point, and draw the attention of any of my readers who weren't already familiar with it to her committment.

Having done that in my previous post...

In this video, Emma Watson interviews Lin Miranda about Hamilton. And the two of them have so much fun talking to each-other it's just totally contagious. A teaser if you haven't already decided to watch the video (or arguably a spoiler if you have): At one point, Lin-Manuel Miranda says "We have to sort the founders into Hogwarts houses." And Hermione Emma is totally on top of it. Prompting the moment in the screencap above, when Lin turns to the camera and says "When you reply to this on twitter, please just put the GIF of her raising her hand..."

I saw a small snippet of her beatboxing from this interview, but didn't realize the larger context, so I'm grateful for your post. You've also ignited my interest in Hamilton. I've heard of it before, of course, but never considered getting a cast recording and listening to it (although now it's unclear to me why I haven't: I've done that with many musicals before years prior to seeing them live :) ).

I would never have thought of getting the cast recording of a show I'd never seen until quite recently — and it's all Lin-Manual Miranda's fault. I started hearing about the show six months ago or so, and watched a few youtube videos. (I posted about some favorites a few weeks ago.) In many of those videos, Lin-Manuel Miranda says some variant of I grew up not seeing Broadway shows. We didn't have money for a ton of musicals. I was a cast album guy.... And one time I heard him say something like that — I sincerely hope it was the first such time, but can't swear to it — dawn broke over marble head and I realized that cast albums are a big part of how musical theater propagates, not just reminders of a show for people who've seen it. And that I'd been doing it wrong all my life.

That's when I ordered the Hamilton cast album.
