In celebration of two whole years of being not dead yet, I will host brunch at my place on Saturday, August 25 (two years and one day after my release from the hospital), starting at 10:00 a.m. Come by, hang out, help me celebrate what all involved tell me is a remarkable recovery. There will be pancakes, bacon, sausage, ham, and of course coffee [edit: And Scones!]*. If you'd like to bring something, that would be nice but by no means necessary; juice, fruit, and baked goods will be especially welcome. Someone who both likes and is good at the various things people do with eggs and a skillet (an area where my skills are at best remedial) would be welcome to take over a corner of the kitchen and practice their craft.

Please feel free to pass this announcement along to anyone you think may be interested. If you don't know where I live these days (which is most of you), send me mail for directions. If you do know where I live, please send me mail or leave a comment here to let me know you're coming; it will help me plan.

*  Those of you who remember Zocalo brunches will note that I did not mention scones. Improbable though this may seem, my Kitchanaid mixer has successfully hidden itself in storage. I will make one more effort to find it in the next two weeks, and if I do there will be scones. But I'm not going to let its disappearance keep me from hosting a brunch any longer. Coraline has generously offered to lend me her Kitchenaid, so there will be scones whether or not I can find mine!

I cannot be there, as that weekend is wickedly overbooked for me. But I will be there in spirit. Sprinkle some spices on those eggs for me! :-)

Yeah, I didn't expect you to be able to make it, with all that's going on in your life.

i might well make it, but more to the point, it wouldn't be difficult to convince my kitchenaid to wander down the street for the occasion, if that would make scones more likely :)

Oh, that would be great. I'll let you know.

D'oh! I'll be at Burning Man by the 25th.... we need to start doing more brunches in the neighborhood, though!

Sorry you won't be there — but, Burning Man! I might actually be healthy enough to do that myself by next year. (Though I'll probably do a Pennsic first when I feel up to spending a week in a tent in August, since there's always a place for me at Pennsic and I know what I'm missing there.)

I'm not quite ready to commit, but tentatively I plan to host another brunch in Sept, and then make a regular thing of it, every odd-numbered month.

You might also want to consider Firefly next year as well, which is a regional burn in northern Vermont.
