Damn I wish LJ had ACLs. And a CLI for controlling them.

Well, it would be easy to implement if they were using something like AFS on the back end.

AFS ACLs are in fact what I have in mind. Hardly surprising, given it's the only ACL system I've ever worked with.

How do you mean? LJ does let you set up different filters, which are much like acls. There may even be a way to get to it from the "console" CLI.

Right, but it doesn't let use them in a very sophisticated way. I'd like, for instance, to be able to include one group in another.

Not that it will help with limitations of the LJ server code, but if you want to use a different client, go get one. Many of those can manage friends groups and archive journal entries.
