Yes! do it! I too find it difficult to sleep in summer, due to early dawn, and it screws up your life. Recent progress in my case has involved teaching myself to keep my eyes tightly shut even when awake, unless abolutely necessary (eg for finding the way to the toilet) and to wear an eye-shade as provided on aeroplanes. But nothing beats a good blind, sealed at every edge to prevent chinks. Good luck with it. I feel your frustration!
