alarm company recommendations?

Does anyone have an alarm company and/or system they like? Of conversely, hate?* Consumer Reports has some general advice, but their last review of alarm systems was in 1994 — so I'm looking to my friends. Thanks in advance!

at my office we've had a hell of a time finding an alarm company that will come and *turn on* the alarm system already installed from the previous tenant. (Sonitrol) We haven't been able to get anyone to call us back yet.

Our system was installed and serviced by American Alarm, which also did all our structured wiring (Cat5 and coax). They're a local family business (from Arlington) that has grown to be one of the largest firms in the NE -- the sort of place where you still meet with the owner when you sign the contract, and they insist on showing you their monitoring center, and so forth. I've had no complaints so far.
