Art is the best medicine
Jan. 24th, 2016 03:25 amEarlier today (well, yesterday, technically, I watched an episode of the Youtube channel "Tested" — the just-released episode in which Adam Savage takes delivery of one of the original spacesuits from The Martian. Which, it turned out, Fox Studios is lending him in return for mentioning that they've just released The Martian on Blue Ray, DVD, and digital streaming.
So I just watched The Martian on Amazon. And was every bit as blown away as both times I've read the book so far. Sufficiently blown away that I'm not even disappointed to discover (as I just did) that I missed the chance to see it last night at the LSC Science Fiction Marathon. Because I'm sure there'll be another chance to see it at LSC. And that when that chance arises, it will blow me away even more!
<spoiler_alert>I am kind of glad I didn't have a chance to see it any sooner, because seeing it now allowed for a bit of synchronicity when, as tension is building about two-thirds of the way through the movie, the soundtrack turns to David Bowie's Starman. It was a perfect moment, and I shed a few tears.</spoiler_alert>
