I picked up a copy of Good Magazine at Whole Foods the other day; if you're interested in how design can make the world a better place, I recommend browsing the web site, which seems to have much or all of the magazine's content. Design is something I've been interested in since I was a teenager. It seems to have emerged from the same cultural impulse that created the fashion industry and the celebrity architect — hardly a promising genesis. But it's gained a certain amount of intellectual seriousness (though not, unfortunately, without at least an equal dose of pretentiousness), and there are now a fair number of smart people thinking about design as a way to make the world a better place. I am very much an observer from the sidelines, and so far my impression is that Good is a good way to get a few glimpses of what's going on in that field.
